Partnerships in Portsmouth
City-wide community connection
John Ryder and Climb Nova Consultancy have worked alongside a wide range of Portsmouth organisations, helping connect community need with practical support, opportunity and trusted local relationships.
This has included partnership and community-facing work connected with the University of Portsmouth, Pompey in the Community, Enable Ability, ROC Portsmouth, Portsmouth Football Club, churches, charities, civic partners and grassroots groups.
The purpose is simple: build bridges that help people feel seen, supported and able to move forward.
University of Portsmouth
Climb Nova has helped give young people meaningful experience in community settings, supporting them to develop confidence, skills and employability.
John has opened doors for University of Portsmouth students and young volunteers by creating practical roles connected to real community projects. These were not token opportunities. Students were trusted, supported and encouraged to develop the kind of experience that can shape a future career.
Many young people gained confidence through volunteering, community engagement and frontline project support. Some have since gone on to secure good jobs in public sector and community-facing work, carrying forward the values, confidence and experience they developed through these opportunities.
Roles have included community outreach, event support, youth engagement, mentoring support, fundraising, project administration, safeguarding-aware practice, research, evaluation, social media support, volunteer coordination and helping deliver practical activities in local communities.

Trusted local partners
The strength of Climb Nova's work is its ability to bring people together around shared purpose.
Using sport, belonging and Portsmouth pride to connect people with confidence, inclusion and positive pathways.
Working alongside disability-focused community support, inclusion and opportunities for people who need practical understanding.
Creating voluntary roles and real-world learning opportunities that help students become capable community professionals.
Part of a wider civic and community conversation bringing leaders, churches, charities and public services together.
ROC Portsmouth
ROC Portsmouth brought together civic leaders, public services, churches, charities and community organisations to discuss local needs and practical action. The ROC Portsmouth write-up lists John Ryder among civic leaders in attendance, alongside representatives from Portsmouth City Council, University of Portsmouth, Hampshire Police, Fire and Rescue and other local partners.
This matters because it shows Climb Nova operating in the spaces where community decisions, relationships and action are shaped. John is not working in isolation. He is part of a wider Portsmouth network focused on making support more connected, more human and more effective.
Community voice
Climb Nova's work has been strengthened by community platforms, local media, student involvement, civic events and trusted relationships. These connections help people hear about support, find opportunities and feel that their stories matter.
From volunteering and employability to community safety, mentoring, fundraising, youth support and lived-experience leadership, Climb Nova helps turn goodwill into organised action.
